Pinoy Journos Launch Fakeblok Chrome Extension to Block FakeNews

Fakeblok – Real journalists want you to stop sharing fake news on Facebook.

The Fakeblok fake news blocker is a Chrome plug-in that would sanitize your Facebook newsfeed from fake news sites.

Fakeblok calls your attention when links from websites that tend to post fake news appear on your Facebook newsfeed. This list of links is curated, fact-checked and monitored by a group of independent media professionals. The Fakeblok project is a collaboration between the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, and the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility.

Calling out fake news
Posts from fake news sites (that are on the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility’s list) will be grayed out on your Facebook feed. And a caption will tell you to approach the article with caution.

A service from real journalists
The list of sites that tend to post fake news is moderated and maintained by a group of independent media professionals, in cooperation with the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility and the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines.

Citizen participation welcome
If you come across something on your Facebook newsfeed that you feel is fake news, you can report it to Fakeblok. A team of journalists will look into your concern. And if verified, the website will be added to the Fakeblok list of sites.

Fakeblok is for everyone
This service is currently by the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, for the Philippine setting.
